Thanks to Facebook newsfeed and getting updates about ERIC CHURCH, I learned around Christmas time that he would be coming to Germany for a few concerts, which included a concert, just one hour south of me, in Munich!!! Naturally, within 5 minutes I bought two tickets! They were each 35euros! That’s completely affordable!
The only problem was, I had to wait several months before it was time for the concert! Pure agony! I couldn’t wait to see my Country Music Jesus in concert finally! I was just sad my best friend wasn’t here with me to see him together!
I had to wait 3 painstaking months before the concert day finally arrived! I wore my best dress with a country flair! Oh ya, I pulled out my boots. Not my normal boots, but my BOOTS! and oh yes, I got tones of German stares as I walked down the main street in Munich. All the while in my head I had a line from the Miley Cyrus’ song “Party in the USA” stuck in my head…
” Everybody’s looking at me now Like, “Who’s that chick that’s rockin’ kicks? She’s gotta be from out of town.”
During the afternoon, we did a bit of sightseeing, which included climbing up the Peterskirche to get a fantastic view over all of Munich. It offers the best view of Marienplatz and the Altes Rathaus! It is worth the climb and only costs 2euros!
Then it was time to grab dinner and head on down to the concert hall!! By the time we got there, there was already a little line forming to be admitted into the concert hall. So we chatted it up with some older American army guy who decided to stay in Germany and marry a German woman.
The concert was at the Backstage and only allows standing room only with a maximum of around 200-300 people. It was hard to tell exactly how many people could fit in there. So it was a very personal-like feeling watching Eric Church play. I could have stood 5 feet from the stage, but being short forced me to stand to the side so that I could have a good view of Eric and no one would be in may way. This would later turn out to be a little bit of a mistake because when he was signing “These Boots” he was literally quickly autographing boots and threw a couple of them out into the crowd. I’m sad I missed that opportunity!
The concert was fantastic and opened with a new band from Nashville called the Cadillac Three opening for Eric. They were a little harder rock than I like. Then, Eric Church came on and sang most of his new songs from his Outsiders CD. He didn’t sing any of his love songs like “Love Your Love the Most” or “Hell on the Heart” which I was really disappointed about seeing as how both of those songs are my favorite. I believe he played for about an hour and a half, but it sure felt like only an hour, Eric Church simply put his hands together and bowed a bit and walked off stage. No encore. No nothing. It just ended. That I was not very happy about, but overall the concert was everything I had imagined it would be. He sounds exactly the same as he does on his CDs. So I checked off another Bucket List goal of going to an Eric Church concert, but not the goal of meeting him. Guess that just means I’ll have to go to another concert!
