Europe’s MOST Breathtaking Libraries

IMG_6829

Whenever I heard the word “library”, I always got cold shivers down my spine as I remembered the long, tedious hours of study hall back during my high school years. It meant endless hours of boring homework instead of hanging out with my friends.

Then one day, I saw a list of the world’s MUST-SEE-LIBRARIES and the curious travelaholic in me decided to click on the link. I was stunned into silence and I began wishing that I had gone to a university that had a stunning library. Maybe I would have loved studying a little bit more!

The first known library was discovered in the first ancient civilization in southern Mesopotamia in Sumer, which is now modern-day Iraq. Here, clay-tablets dating as far back as 2600 B.C. were discovered. Other libraries filled with personal books were in Greece in 5 B.C. My darling, darling boyfriend planned and surprised me with a weekend trip to once of Europe’s most romantic cities. No, not Venice or Paris. Those can be overrated. Surprisingly, he chose Vienna, Austria as our weekend getaway. While one might not think of a large city such as Vienna even remotely romantic, and let me tell you, I was also a skeptic, I returned home with considerably different point of view. This past weekend has been a scorcher! Temperatures have climbed up to 99F/36.5C. People are swarming the local pools, eating ice cream as fast as they can and hiding in the shade. Unlike us, we decided to spend the afternoon driving in our new air conditioned car.

We made a day trip road trip, first checking out the Wiblingen Monastery Library just outside of Ulm before stopping for lunch and a quick walk around through the town of Ulm. Afterwards, we drove further west to wander around the Burg Hohenzollern. Continue reading

With LOVE, from Prague

img_1068Prague will always have a special place in my heart as my first full solo trip to Prague to a country I wasn’t already familiar with for a weekend back in 2008 while I was still studying abroad in Germany. It was new and fresh for me as it was my first Eastern European country I had ever visited. I absolutely fell in love with the hundreds of spires and towers throughout the entire town. Now that I am only a few hours away from Prague, Hans and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to catch the first train to Prague for the weekend!

It is one of the most popular cities in Europe to visit right now as it is both cheap and absolutely beautiful at every turn. The town has spires upon spires that fill the skyline. Prague has a dark history, but today it is alive and thriving as everyone wants to fall in love with Prague.
